| The
9th Edition of
Tennis Day for Africa has concluded at Tennis
Parioli Club with the confirm of the presence of
the top ranking players: May 6 with David Ferrer (ESP), Marat Safin
(RUS),
Nicolas Almagro (ESP), Oliver Rochus (BEL),
Jonas Bjorkman (SWE), James Blake (USA), Bob Bryan
(USA), Mike Bryan (USA); May 13 with Elena
Dementieva (RUS), Daniela Hantuchova (SVK), Patty
Schnyder (ON I), Flavia Pennetta (ITA), To Sugyama
(JPN)… . The day of Saturday May 6 had a shining morning and an afternoon with
showers, limiting the
program and the presence of spectators. The participants
played in a relaxed atmosphere, availble to wear the
T-shirts with the colours of Tennis for Africa, and
taking some pictures with the fans. The day of May
13 had less spectators in spite
of the beautiful day and the presence of the top
players. The proceeds of
the event were raised in favour of the sport
humanitarian project in Freetown, capital of Sierra
Leone. During the two days Tennis for Africa collected memorabilia
donated by players and immediately proposed on ebay.it. Sponsors of the
event were Province of Rome and ATP. The event was
carried out with
the collaboration of the direction of the
tournament. Two collaborators of Tennis for Africa, Lorenzo
Marcuzzi and Stefano Bozzo, attended the event
coming from Freetown just after closing the period
of stage with local teachers and many children last
April. On May 6 and 7 Julius Hubbard, coordinator of the
project, came from London for supporting the
promotion of the activity. Thanks to the
fundraising during the event, the sponsors and the
auctions on Internet Tennis for Africa raised 6,000, 00 Euro. |
