A
NEW WAY TO GIVE A CONCRETE SUPPORT TO CHILDREN
IN NIGERIA.
Giacomo
Paleni – Italian tennis coach from Saronno
-Italy
In
October
2006, Giacomo Paleni with his player Lisa
Sabino from Italy (n°500 Wta), took part at two
international tournaments in Lagos Nigeria (ITF
25.000) for the second consecutive year. The experience was unusual for them
as they found a country full of social,
political and humanitarian difficulties.
They met an Italian family who invited them to
visit a small community with Nigerian children in
Moroko area. The group of children left a sign
in Giacomo's and Lisa's hearts, so when they
came back to Nigeria the year with a baggage full of tennis
equipment.
The
idea became real when they met the children
again and they donated T-shirts,
racquets, and balls. The children were
so happy to receive the gifts that everybody
danced and sang to express their
happyness all day long.
Lisa
is playing well this year as he has just won a
tournament in Rabat before going back to
Nigeria with Giacomo in September 2008.
The
children in the Community are assisted for free
by an Italian teacher who maintain a permanent
contact with Palemi in Italy in order to keep
him informed about any news.
Tennis
for Africa whises to promote a fundraising to
respond to the main needs of the community,
giving priority to children as they are more
vulnerable.
