The solidarity was the
main protagonist at the
Inter Parliamentary
Charity Tennis for
Africa over the weekend
of September 19 and 20
2009.
The national tennis
teams of
parliamentarians from
Italy, Finland and
Russia played the
charity event with an
amusing performance at
Due Ponti Sporting Club
in Rome.
From Russian Federation
took part one team with
three deputies of the
State Duma: Konstantin
Zatulin, Ildar
Gimaletdinov and Yury
Borisovets. From Italy
took part two teams, one
with Pierluigi Mantini,
Enrico Costa and Roberto
Zaccaria, the second,
and winner of the event,
with Valerio Calzolaio
and Gianantonio Arnoldi.
From Finland took part
one team with three
parlamentarians: Matti
Sariņen, Tuomo Puumala,
the youngest Member of
the tournament and
Merikukka Forsius.
Famous ATP champions
joined the
parliamentarians teams:
Gianluca Pozzi and
Vincenzo Santopadre from
Italy, Jonas Svensson
from Sweden and Andrei
Chesnokov from Russia.
Funny and aggressive
matches of single and
double took place in a
relaxing and friendly
atmosphere where the
fundraising was animated
by the organization of a
raffle with tennis
memorabilia.
The program on Saturday
offered an unusual
double with Tonino
Zugarelli (ITA) and
Claudio Pistolesi (ITA)
opposed to Vincenzo
Santopadre (ITA)and the
famous Italian showman
Paolo Bonolis.
The donations were
provided by each Country
in favour of the DREAM
project of the Community
of Sant'Egidio for the
Center for treatment of
children with AIDS in
Maputo - Mozambique.
The initiative organized
by the non profit Tennis
for Africa Association,
with the collaboration
of ATP, was strongly
supported by Enel with
the assistance of the
Municipality of Rome,
and was carried out
through the
collaboration of some
private companies and
institutions and a large
group of volunteers with
advanced organizational
skill in the sports
sector.
